New Funds for Old Leaking USTs

Since November 1, 2006, the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) has been accepting pre-certification applications for the Temporary Reimbursement Program (TRP) leaking underground storage tank (LUST) sites.

The TRP was established in July 2006 to provide limited financial assistance to owners/operators toward cleaning up their old LUST problems by reimbursing 80% of each approved work invoice, up to $50,000 for each approved facility. The catch: to qualify, owners/operators must have had previously approved claims under the former Michigan UST Financial Assurance (MUSTFA) program, or have a valid assignment of an approved MUSTFA claim. Moreover, funding is only for approved work to be performed after your application has been approved.

The MDEQ will continue to accept and process applications through April 30, 2007, on a “first come, first served” basis (while supplies last!).
