Hemlock Semi-Conductor Expansion

Corning Incorporated, in partnership with an industry leading technical expert, is constructing a solar cell wafer manufacturing facility on a site contiguous to the existing manufacturing site for Hemlock Semiconductor (HSC) in Hemlock, Michigan.

TEC was retained by Turner Construction to provide construction materials testing (CMT) services for the Phoenix Project to include soil compaction inspection and testing, caisson inspections, concrete foundations and rebar, cast-in place concrete reinforcing placement inspection for slab-on-grade and slab-on-deck, concrete testing for cast-in place concrete at slab-on-grade and slab-on-deck, testing of slabs within 24 hours for ff/fl, masonry field inspection and testing, structural steel testing and inspection, metal deck field inspection, including shear studs, site curbs and sidewalks testing, concrete paving testing and inspection, asphalt paving testing and inspection.

Hemlock Semiconductor Operations, founded in Hemlock in 1961, is one of the longest operating manufacturers of polysilicon in the world and remains the largest producer of high-purity polysilicon in the United States, while also being the only U.S.-headquartered manufacturer.

The phase 1 physical facility is anticipated to be approximately 1,400,000 GSF constructed on a 74+ acre site. When operating at capacity, the site will employ 800-1000 employees (10% salary and 90% production workers). The business is targeting to start production (SOP) and shipping first production parts by January 2025.
