Walter P. Reuther Hospital

Westland, Michigan

TEC was originally retained to provide an asbestos survey of the tunnel areas to be demolished as part of a hospital expansion project, along with asbestos abatement specifications and contractor oversight and clearance sampling upon completion of abatement activities.

Shortly thereafter, TEC was contacted to assist in addressing occupant concerns of diesel fuel odors in a basement equipment storage area and shipping/receiving area. Investigation of the area revealed that diesel fuel was present in a basement sump. TEC investigated the source of the diesel fuel contamination, estimated the quantity of impacted soils and determined best feasible means of removal of contaminated soil as well as free product. TEC coordinated soil and diesel fuel removal with the hospital’s environmental contractor. Verification samples were collected afterward to demonstrate that impacted soils had been removed.
